Cynips douglasii

Gall expert Joyce Gross believes that these galls may be shaped differently depending on which type of oak they are on. This seems to be the case with the Spined Turban Galls at Rockville. I have found them on both Blue Oak (Quercus douglasii) and Valley Oak (Quercus lobabta), and they do look different depending on the host tree. Photos 1-9 are on Blue Oak and Photos 12-19 are on Valley Oak.
